Meet Our Leadership Team

Gary Bellis, Lead Pastor

Gary Bellis has been the Lead Pastor at Newport Assembly since 1975.  In 1971 he and his future wife Mary accepted Christ as Savior the first time they attended this church.  He has a passion to teach the truth of God’s word in relevant and practical ways.  His motivation to serve the poor resulted in the birth of the Bread of Life Outreach which has received and distributed 43,000 tons of free food, medicine and household products since 1994. He is committed to accomplishing the Great Commission and planting churches in our local region and throughout world.  Pastor Bellis enjoys hunting, fishing and spending time with his wife, their three grown children and 8 grandchildren.

Bill Walborn, Admin. Pastor

Bill Walborn is the Administrative Pastor here at Newport Assembly.  He has been here since 1983.  Growing up in Newport, he attended Newport Assembly as a young person.  After completing Zion Bible Institute, he was hired as the Children’s Pastor.  In the past, he has had his head shaved, been covered with silly string, had buckets of water dumped on him and endured many other perils - all for the sake of kids drawing closer to Jesus.  Over the years, his role has changed.

As the Administrative Pastor, he does a lot of organizing, scheduling and recruiting volunteers.  When  not working on administrative duties here at the church, he enjoys spending time with his wife Brenda and working on projects around the house.  He enjoys wood-working, music and loves spending time with his children and granddaughter. She has her pops wrapped around her finger.

Jerry Wise, Campus Pastor

Pastor Jerry is the Campus Pastor at Journey Christian Church, which is our Thompsontown Campus. He joined our staff in 2013.  He has been involved at Newport Assembly since 1994 and has served in various capacities over the years.

Prior to becoming a pastor, Jerry was a high school English teacher at Central Dauphin High School where he taught for 25 years.

Pastor Jerry and his wife live in Millerstown and have four children.
